Choosing music for the opening

Now that we had put all our clips in order we had to decide on a track that will create tension and make the audience feel uncomfortable. When decided on the music we had to take in to consideration what we want to audience to feel and what mood it is going to bring, if we used a pop sounding track it would ruin the mood we are trying to create so we needed to pick a track that would create and eerie uncomfortable feel.

Another thing we had to take into consideration is that the track had to be non copy write so we had to look at specific websites that would let us use their music free. The names of the tracks are called "Dream scape" and "Eerie Angel" we decided these because we thought they would make the audience the most uncomfortable and give an eerie feel without being too cliche.

We decided to go with the track "eerie angel" The reason we chose this track is because it had a good build up to the climax and actually had a climax that could end, with the track "Dreamscape" it was very eerie but it didnt climax so the tension was not released ruinening the effect for our opening.

I think that the track went well with opening as it built suspense when needed and climaxed a the right moments it also gave the opening a really eerie feel and made me feel uncomfortable which is what we really wanted to achieve when deciding on the music.

Deciding on a name

Before we could finish out film we had to decide on a name, to do this we had to take into account the genre we had chosen. As we had chosen a Psychological thriller we couldn't make our name "The nightmare of the fluffy puppies" because it isn't eerie or mysterious so we sat down as a group and wrote a list of words down that would suit our genre (Dark, whispers, broken etc)

After a lengthy decision we decided on two names "The Unheard" and "Broken Whispers" The reason we decided on The Unheard is because we thought it was eerie so it fitted with out genre but not too cliche and it fitted with out storyline. The same applied to Broken Whispers but we thought this was a little more cliche than The Unheard.

We eventually decided to go with "The Unheard" I believe this was a good decision because it goes with our genre and our story line but it also isn't a cliche.

Final font choice

Bellow is the final font we chose to use, the reason we chose to use this font is because of its childlike features creating and eeriness about it but not falling into a cliche. The font we used is called "crappy dan" and here it is in each type of layout: all lowercase, Capitals at the start and all uppercase. The reason we decided to look at the font in all three ways is to get the best effect and the most aesthetically pleasing. One of the main reasons why we chose to look at the font in all lowercase is because it gives the best child like impression as it implies that whoever wrote it isn't very educated (A child)
The Unheard
the unheard
THE UNHEARD

Textual Analysis

Now that we are getting close to filiming and editing i believe that it would be a good idea to choose what font we are going to use. The font can be very important because if you do not choose a clear font or it isnt a clear colour/size it may be harder or impossible for the audience to read.

I looked at lot of websites that promote different fonts to use and I decided to stay with a website called Dafont.com the reason I chose this website over the other is because I believe this is the most reliable, has the widest range of fonts and also the majority of them are free to use.

Here is a few we picked out...

When choosing these fonts I didnt want to fall into the cliche of the typical weird scary font but I also needed that kind of thing to create a sense of unease in the audience. So I went for slightly weird but also conciously tried not to make it cliche.

After trying these fonts out we realised that they did fall into the cliche so we went with a different font. We believe that the font is worth investing the time into as it will come up when the screen is black being the center of attention. So overall i think the time invested was worth it and we have ended up with a font we are really happy with and also that our peers enjoy the most.

Prop List - What we are going to use

this is the scarf and gloves that luke will be wearing

This is the jacket that Luke will be wearing

This is the ipod we are going to feature at the beginning of the opening.
After looking back at our idea we realised that we were not going to use the ipod because the day we filmed it had been raining and we also realised it would have been too hard to incorporate the ipod sound into the filming. When we planned the filming the temperature at the time was extremely cold (Even snowing) so that is why we decided to add the coat and gloves and coat but now realising the temperature has gone up we decided to use different clothing.

Initial Planning

We decided that before thinking about any ideas for our opening we needed to decide on sub or a hybrid genre for the thriller, we watched examples of a few ideas we liked to come to a conclusion. We worked together and did research to make a mind map of the different variations of the thriller genre and then to choose one. We decided to go for a mystery/phsycological thriller, the reason why we went for this sub-genre is because after looking at what genre is popular at the moment and what the audience want to see we came to the conclusion that this sub-genre was it but not too cliche. Now that we have decided on a sub-genre we can now look at what the film if going to be about to we can plan the opening of it.

Planning the Continuity task

To help us produce our continuity task we made a storyboard. This was our first attempt at making a story board and I think it shows, after it was made and we set out to film we didn't really follow it that much because the lack of detail. When we make our next storyboard that is something we defiantly need to consider. We had to work together and plan what types of camera shots and angle we were going to use and how long each shot would last, here is what we finished with. To improve i beleive we need to add more detail in the drawings and descriptions. The drawings need to show more what the actuall footage is going to be like and also show more about the movement that is going to happen so we have a clearer idea of what we are actually going to film. When adding more detail to the descriptions i beleive we need to be more specific how long each shot actually as and what happens in each shot. Now that we know these problems we can vastly improve on them when we next make another story board.
